GeoWebCache

GeoWebCache 1.0

We are finally here! Thanks to everyone who has contributed so far, we hope you enjoy the fruits of your labor and continue to help bring GeoWebCache forward.

You can read the official press release here.

Changes since RC1:

  • XSL support was added to XMLConfiguration to enable it to read old configuration files
  • #69 XML configuration syntax was cleaned up. wmsLayer, srs, wmsUrl, errorMime, reported by Daniel Gredler
  • XSD file for geowebcache.xml has been added, the online version is here
  • expireCache , expireClients were disconnected, they should work again now
  • zoomStart and zoomStop were disconnected, they should work again now. Reported by Pål Kristensen.

What now?

Plans for 1.1 have already been made, though not set in stone. In the coming days and week you should see the plans transform into tickets and milestones. Things that have been mentioned are

  • Allow clients to vary certain parameters, creating multiple sets of tiles per layer / format
  • An embedded database for storing meta information, such as aforementioned parameters, age of tile an so forth. This also makes it possible to define the maximum space that can be occupied.
  • Support for databases or caching system to store tiles, such as Hibernate

The changes above could potentially lead to a degradation in performance. A rig with gigabit networking will be setup to quantify the issue.
